Pod Shots - The Great Gatsby
Welcome back to another episode of Pod Shots! In this episode I’m joined by the co-host of Plain Label Podcast, the one and only Rachel Kruse! In this episode we’re going with a new film that fits in so well with our Movies and Books theme we’ve been discussing, the 2013 adaptaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book: The Great Gatsby. Baz Luhrmann co-writes and directs the film that stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton. In this discussion we talk about our expectations of the film, our history with the source material, and getting into the film itself, we discuss the look, the sound, the cast, and the differences between the book and the movie. We also mention a few times the Robert Redford version of the film and please check that out as well. It’s another interesting discussion on a film that I happen to think is pretty fantastic. Join us won’t you?

Welcome back to another episode of Pod Shots! In this episode I’m joined by 11 O’Clock Comics’ own David A. Price! In this episode we’re going back to the Star Trek well with a discussion on the 2009 Star Trek franchise reboot film. We begin with a discussion of our histories of Star Trek. Getting into the discussion David and Eric talk about the casting, the set design choices, the characters, and we discuss the plot which can be a little tricky. We do move into more of the plot points so please be warned that this is a very heavy spoiler discussion. The hosts then discuss what we expect out of the latest film and whether either of them is reading up on Star Trek: Into Darkness or if they are trying to go in blind. It was a thrill having David on to discuss Star Trek and I think it makes for a pretty damn fine episode! Definitely one to check out!

We begin our talk on the films: The Princess Bride, Road to Perdition, Mean Girls and Eric sadly, takes on the film Away From Her, by himself. Just because the book is already out, doesn’t mean you’re off the hook from ordering a copy of Low Concept 3 at

Welcome back to another episode of Pod Shots! In this episode I’m joined by returning guest, Shawn Pryor! In another of the “new to Eric” films, we’ve selected the 2006 crime film, Lucky Number Slevin. In this episode Shawn discusses his connection to the film, while Eric briefly mentions why he wasn’t drawn to it, and hadn’t seen it before. They go over the casting of the film, specifically Josh Hartnett and break down the twists and turns that this film brings. They discuss what works so well about the film and what doesn’t seem to work in this modern crime/noir style film. It’s always a good discussion with Shawn and this episode is no exception to that rule!
In this episode we begin a mega theme with our first discussion on books that were made into movies. We begin our first talk on three movies that were books that either one of our hosts, or both, have read. In this episode we’re discussion the films: Sin City, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Watchmen. We start off with a quick reminder to support our writing efforts by pre-ordering Low Concept 3 at
Welcome back to another special edition of the Plain Label Podcast. In this episode I’m joined by fellow baseball fans and returning guests: Travis Siebrass, Marcus Herring, and Craig Meister. We begin the show by discussing the off-season of our favorite teams. Travis begins with a look at the rebuilding Cubs. Marcus discusses how he fired Bobby Valentine from the Red Sox. Craig tells everyone why this was the worst off-season in Marlins history and I explain why the Braves are going to win the World Series in 2013. We then get into some awards and playoff discussion before wrapping up the show with a prediction of who will win the World Series! It’s always an entertaining podcast when the four of us get together to talk some baseball, and this episode is no different, check it out!
Welcome back to another episode of Pod Shots! In this episode I’m joined by returning guest, Steve Bruns! In our first discussion of a documentary, we selected the 2012 doc, Searching for Sugar Man, the Oscar Winner in 2012 for best documentary, although this was recorded before the Oscars. We dig into the film, discussing the artist known as Rodriguez and his position in the music world in South Africa. We break down what specifically works so well about the film and gush about the music of Rodriguez. We then get into the idea that Rodriguez was crafted in certain ways for the film, and it seems as though any potential flaws were left out leaving a man that’s an incredible singer/songwriter, and an inspiring man. It’s a fun conversation, and fun episode and if nothing else it opened our eyes to the music of Rodriguez!
