Plain Label Podcast Episode 6 - Baseball Movies

Text Description

It’s baseball season! Rachel and Eric share their love of America’s pastime by discussing two of their favorite baseball films: Major League and A League of Their Own.

They begin the show by discussing the characters and comedy of Major League, explaining how this film taught them curse words. Eric goes into some detail of what makes this possibly one of the most quotable films of all time before the two move on, and discuss Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own. Rachel describes how this is one of her childhood favorites and Eric attempts to explain his problems with the film. Before rounding out the show the two hosts briefly discuss some of their favorite other baseball films.

Plain Label Podcast: Special Edition - Low Concept 2: Comix Boogaloo

Text Description

Low Concept 2 - Comix Boogaloo

In this episode Eric is joined by a handful of guests as they discuss Low Concept 2 - Comix Boogaloo. Eric is joined by the men behind the scenes in this anthology, Jon Westhoff and Bobgar Ornelas first, and they discuss what goes into editing the anthology, as well as their story, “In Your Time Travels”. Jon then discusses his second story “Isn’t it Cryonic” with artist Harry Moyer, based on a song by Tub Ring.

Zack Kruse joins the fray with a discussion on his story “The Tentacled Terror From Beyond” with artist Andrew Frasier. Zack delves into the depths of the horror comic genre with this tale and for those that know Zack, yes, he does mention Ditko!

Ben Tiede comes on to talk about his work, “Scuba Frog in The Planet of the Flies” starring everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic frog, Scuba Frog! Ben talks about his inspirations for Scuba Frog but reminds everyone that it’s not a Furry Comic!

Dwight Clark rounds out the discussion by opening up with the future of Low Concept before the two of us get into our project “Red Summer”. Dwight and I break down the true story of Willie Brown in Omaha in 1919, his arrest and the mob that’s out to get him. Dwight goes into detail about the artistic side of the story and the challenges he faced while working on the project. We get into artistic styles and how taste changes as we age specifically discussing Neil Adams, Kent Williams, and Bill Sienkiewicz. Eric then gets into the Sidebar discussion as we hear the origin of Sidebar, and get in a little talk about Prince!
