Plain Label Podcast Episode 11 - Musicals Part 2

Text Description

In this episode, we conclude Musicals Month with an examination on some of the newer musicals. We begin with a discussion on Moulin Rouge, before moving into the films: Chicago, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Hairspray, and Rock of Ages!

Our discussion brings out the fact that Eric seems to have problems with female musical leads, and no matter had bad the film is, Rachel will still enjoy it, as long as there is singing. We marvel at Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago before looking at Edward Scissor…I mean, Sweeney Todd. The 2007 film Hairspray was a nice surprise before ending on the newest musical, the 2012 film Rock of Ages!

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me

Plain Label Podcast Episode 10 - Musicals Part 1

Text Description

It’s Musicals Month on the Plain Label Podcast! It’s time to take a break from the explosions and testosterone found in summer movies and explore a blind spot in one of our hosts movie history. We begin with the classics: Singin’ in the Rain, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story and My Fair Lady!

We begin with a discussion on Singin’ in the Rain, possibly the greatest musical of all time. The shrill, unlikeable female cast member continues in Guys and Dolls with the character of Adelade. The hosts agree that while Guys and Dolls is a fine film, it doesn’t measure up to Singin’ in the Rain. The discussion turns to West Side Story where the hosts are split in their enjoyment. Finally, we wrap up this historical musicals episode with a look at My Fair Lady.

Music:
Donald O’Connor - Make ‘Em Laugh
